Brandi Grier, pending LGPC

School Counselor

NOT ACCEPTING CLIENTS AT THE MOMENT

I am Brandi Grier, a recent graduate of Loyola University of Maryland, and I am excitedly awaiting my LGPC licensure.

I am currently a school counselor in Baltimore County Public Schools. I view therapy as a collaborative journey, the client is the author of their own life and the expert of their own experience. My passion lies in helping clients to realize their strengths while embracing their weaknesses in order to navigate life’s challenges and highlights.

Who do I work with?

I primarily work with individual adults, and children, teenagers. As a person of color (POC), I seek to create a safe and healing space for people of color.

I have experience working with a variety of mental health concerns including:

  • Stress

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • OCD

  • Relational issues

  • ADHD

What’s your approach when working with adults?

When working with adults, I specialize in mindfulness, cognitive behavior, solution-focused, and narrative counseling approaches.

  • I use narrative therapy, to help clients separate themselves from their problems by externalizing the issue and reducing self-blame and shame.

  • I deconstruct clients' dominant narratives, challenge negative stories, and encourage them to consider alternative, empowering perspectives.

  • I guide clients in re-authoring their stories by highlighting exceptions, strengths, and moments of resilience, fostering a shift in perception and response to challenges.

  • I engage in externalizing conversations where clients interact with the problem as a separate entity, gaining insights and exploring strategies for effective management.

  • I collaborate with clients to co-create new narratives and meanings, empowering them to take ownership of their stories and experiences for lasting change and personal growth.

I want my clients to feel a sense of agency during therapy sessions. As we build a safe space, my hope is that genuine trust is built between myself and my clients. As a woman of color, equity and cultural responsiveness has not only been a priority, but a lifestyle. Advocating for all is something I feel strongly about; it reinforces my belief that empathy is a part of humanity that makes the biggest impact.
