Child, Adolescent & Teen Counseling

Compassionate Support for Young Minds

At Safe Space Counseling Services, we believe every child and adolescent deserves a space where they feel safe, heard, and empowered. Our child-focused therapists specialize in meeting young people where they are—emotionally, developmentally, and creatively.

Whether your child is facing anxiety, navigating friendships, experiencing family changes, or simply needs help expressing themselves, our counselors bring decades of combined experience and a deep passion for helping kids, adolescents, and teens thrive.

When You Notice These Symptoms in Your Child or Teen

It’s not always easy to tell when your child or teen might need extra support. Below are some of the most common emotional, behavioral, and social signs we help children and adolescents work through in therapy.

At Safe Space Counseling Services, we’re here to walk alongside you. Our therapists meet each child or teen where they are—emotionally, developmentally, and with care—so they can feel supported, understood, and empowered to grow.

What You Can Expect

We know that starting therapy can feel like a big step—for both children and their caregivers. At Safe Space, our child and adolescent therapists work to make the experience as supportive and approachable as possible from the very first session.

  • Our counselors emphasize rapport-building during initial sessions. They take time to understand your child’s personality, interests, and comfort level, using games, storytelling, or drawing to help them open up at their own pace.

  • Therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Our team uses a variety of approaches—Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play-based and art-based methods, mindfulness, storytelling, and movement—to meet each child where they are developmentally and emotionally.

  • You’ll be kept in the loop. While maintaining your child’s confidentiality, our counselors offer updates, helpful strategies, and check-ins to support continued growth outside of sessions.

  • Our counselors use tools like digital whiteboards, visual aids, games, and routine structures to make virtual therapy engaging and effective—whether working with a playful child or a more reserved teen.

  • Progress can be big or small. We’re here to support emotional regulation, self-expression, confidence, and social connection—wherever your child or teen may be on their journey.

Benefits of Child & Adolescent Counseling

Every child deserves the tools to understand their emotions, feel confident in themselves, and handle life’s challenges with support. Here are some of the many ways counseling can benefit your child or teen:

  • Improved Emotional Awareness

Therapy helps children recognize, name, and understand their feelings—reducing emotional outbursts, meltdowns, or shutdowns

  • Healthier Coping Skill

Kids learn tools like breathing exercises, mindfulness, journaling, or movement to manage anxiety, sadness, frustration, or stress.

  • Better Communication

Through storytelling, drawing, role-playing, and play, children and teens become more comfortable expressing themselves in ways that feel safe and natural.

  • Stronger Social Skills & Confidence

Children gain strategies for making friends, handling peer conflict, and building self-esteem—especially important during the school years and adolescence.

  • Support Through Transitions & Challenges

Whether it’s a new school, changes in the family, or adjusting to life after a loss, therapy provides a steady place for kids to process and adapt.

  • Individualized, Compassionate Care

Every session is tailored to your child’s personality, age, and pace. Our goal is to meet them where they are—with creativity, structure, and compassion.
