JAMIE IS ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

I’m Jamie Laning, LMSW, a proud Jersey girl through and through.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Wilmington University and later completed my Master's of Social Work at Syracuse University. I’m currently working towards my post-graduate certificate in Trauma & Resilience at Wilmington University. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep passion for helping individuals navigate challenges like depression, anxiety, trauma, and issues specific to Military and Veteran service members and their families.

Before my career in social work, I spent 10 years as a paralegal in different legal practice areas. This experience not only honed my analytical and advocacy skills but also solidified my commitment to fighting for the best interests of those I serve. I bring this same passion and determination to my work as a social worker and will always advocate fiercely for my clients’ rights and well-being.

Together, we’ll explore the tools and strategies that work best for you, refining them along the way to meet your evolving needs. I am here to support you every step of the way, providing warmth, honesty, and a safe space to navigate life’s complexities.

I believe therapy should be a space where you feel heard, supported, and encouraged to grow while also being empowered to take charge of your life. My job is to provide you with the tools and a general outline of how to use them, but I recognize that our sessions are only a small part of your day-to-day experience. This is why I focus on helping you build confidence in applying those tools outside of therapy to create the life you want. Encouraging this kind of empowerment is also part of how I challenge my clients when the time is right—offering a gentle nudge toward self-discovery and personal growth.

Who do I work with?

My role is to meet you where you are, honoring your unique experiences, and to remain flexible in my approach to best support you. Whether you're navigating identity, LGBTQIA+ challenges, the gender spectrum, sex work, or focusing on coping skills, trauma, depression, anxiety, or ADHD, my goal is to tailor therapy to fit your needs. Together, we'll create a personalized treatment plan, drawing from diverse therapeutic methods that resonate with you. With a strong passion for trauma work and a commitment to adaptability, I’ll support and walk alongside you every step of the way as you take steps to improve your life.

I support clients dealing with a variety of concerns, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Skills.

  • Mindfulness-Based Interventions.

  • Trauma-Informed Care.

  • Crisis Intervention. Case Management.

  • Individual & Couples Therapy.

  • Anger Management. Adolescents (14+), Adults.

Common Counseling Issues I Work With

My ultimate goal for you in therapy is to empower you with the tools and insights you need to navigate life’s challenges with confidence, independence, and resilience. Over time, I hope you reach a place where you no longer need therapy as frequently (or at all!) because you have the skills and strategies to manage things on your own.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize, and why?

I provide a personalized therapeutic approach by blending evidence-based modalities, including attachment-based therapy, CBT, DBT, and trauma-focused techniques, to address each client’s unique needs. My culturally sensitive and feminist-informed practice fosters empowerment and respects individual identities. I incorporate mindfulness for self-compassion, motivational interviewing to explore goals, and strength-based strategies to build resilience, helping clients heal and thrive.

  • Waiting to be paneling with BCBS, Cigna and Aetna insurances

  • When I’m not in session, you can usually find me out and about with my camera, snapping shots of whatever catches my eye. I also get lost in novels, especially legal thrillers (the more suspenseful, the better!). When I need to escape from the world, I’m hiking or traveling somewhere new. I’ll happily take any excuse to get outdoors or explore a new city. And if you happen to hear some random meowing in our sessions, it’s probably Rory, my polydactyl tabby.

She’s got extra toes and an extra amount of personality, so you might just see her make an appearance every now and then.

  • Monday- Thursdays (4 10s)

    from 10am to 8pm

  • I’m an Enneagram 6, which means I’m that dependable, loyal friend who’s always got your back. I like to be the one you can count on to show up, work hard, and make sure you’ve got what you need. Those who know me best would describe me as fiercely loyal and protective, hardworking, funny, compassionate, and generous. And yes, I do tend to agree with them!

Humor is my go-to for breaking the ice, and I’m a big believer that life’s easier to handle with a little laughter along the way.
