TAYLOR NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

I am Taylor. As a Black woman and a therapist, I am dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive space for individuals to explore their experiences and work toward healing.

I believe in the power of human connection and the importance of addressing systemic issues that impact mental health.

My approach to therapy is grounded in a commitment to social justice, cultural humility, and evidence-based practices. I strive to create an environment where clients feel empowered to express themselves authentically and work towards their goals.

“As a proud black woman and an advocate for social justice and racial equity. Being a therapist challenges me each and every day, and it is such a privilege that people allow me to hold space for their pain, joy, grief, confusion, and more”

I intentionally attune myself to the evolving nature of the profession and consciously challenge myself to invest in growth and learning opportunities to increase my competency as a therapist.”

Who do I work with?

I specialize in providing therapy to individuals who are seeking a safe and inclusive space to explore their experiences and address mental health challenges. My particular areas of expertise include working with clients who identify as underrepresented or marginalized individuals, navigating issues related to racial identity, gender, sexuality, or other marginalized identities, and experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, or other mental health conditions. Additionally, I offer support with relationship issues, life transitions, personal growth, body image, eating disorders, and self-esteem.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve clients who are underrepresented, marginalized, and who have and are experiencing oppression, microaggressions, and/or exploring their racial identity. I have experience working with clients within the criminal justice system, navigating issues within the system including racial disparities, discrimination, trauma and challenging the stigma of mental health. In addition to incarcerated clients and reentry clients, I am really passionate about exploring the depth of being a black woman and navigating the unique challenges for black women within interpersonal connections, racial disparities in the workplace, body image, normalized maladaptive coping mechanisms, and the stereotypes that make healing through these specific factors aversive.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize, and why?

I use an eclectic and integrative approach to treatment and tend to incorporate treatment modalities including DBT, CBT, and ACT. I infuse social justice, cultural humility and a trauma-responsive vantage point into all of the work that I do with my clients. Having an eclectic approach allows me to meet my clients where they are.

FAQ from Clients

  • In the first session, clients can expect to be supported in navigating through the trepidation, anxiety, and/or excitement of meeting and collaborating with a new provider. The first session will honor the challenge of being vulnerable with a person they’ve never met before and they will be given permission to go at their pace. In acknowledging the layers of a new intimate experience, I will gather basic historical information of the client’s mental health and inquire about what’s brought them into treatment at this time. We will also explore what they need within the therapeutic alliance. Subsequent sessions will infuse mindfulness, intentionality, and affirmation of the client’s humanity. I will encourage a person-centered approach to prompt client introspection of their own lives and what is important for them to emotionally invest into within the therapeutic space.

  • As a provider, it is important that my clients feel seen in all versions of their humanity and I believe that radically accepting people for where they are, allows for clients to be courageous in navigating their journey with self. I also prioritize the value of leaning into the discomfort and the challenges, so I gently confront my clients in sessions to explore difficult conversations that impact them in their life.

  • Anyone who does not see us as a good fit, or simply does not want to work with me. I believe that representation matters in this work, and some clients may not feel aligned in working with me because of my identity factors or our personality factors are misaligned. In addition to this, if a client’s challenges are out of my scope of competency, it would be my ethical obligation to refer them to a clinician more suitable to accommodate their therapeutic needs.

  • When the client feels as though they’ve attained success. I acknowledge progress each time they take a step to engage in our work together. Each step is success from my perspective.

If a client has completed the goals, they set out to accomplish initially coming into therapy. The therapeutic journey can be an ongoing process requiring investment in self with regard to this capacity during different seasons of life.

  • I want clients to feel brave and like the purest version of themselves. I want them to feel seen and heard

  • The work does not stop when they leave the collaborative therapy space together. The investment in the therapeutic journey does require accountability of ongoing implementation and generalization of skills discussed and learned in session.

    Out of Network

  • Outside of work, I enjoy activities like SoulCycle, spending time with loved ones, traveling, and indulging in various hobbies. These hobbies contribute to my effectiveness as a supervisor by humanizing me, promoting work-life balance, and advocating for a holistic approach to life. I describe myself as passionate, loving, direct, kind, and full of life, and I bring these qualities to my role as a clinical supervisor. I encourage supervisees to reach out for additional support as needed and prioritize open communication and vulnerability within the supervisory relationship. I aim to create a supportive and open environment by being present, empathetic, and committed to their growth and development. My professional philosophy is to match the developmental needs of the supervisee and empower them to understand and act upon their perceptions. I integrate this philosophy into my supervision practice by using a strength-based approach to expand on their current knowledge and infuse new learning.

(Clinical Supervisor Role )

  • As a clinical supervisor, my primary role is to foster the growth and development of my supervisees while ensuring the highest standards of ethical practice and client care.

I believe in creating a supportive and collaborative environment where supervisees feel comfortable exploring their own therapeutic approaches and receiving guidance and feedback. To achieve this, I prioritize building strong relationships based on mutual respect, open communication, and a shared commitment to learning and professional growth.

  • As a clinical supervisor, I'm most effective when working with supervisees whose interests and goals align with my own areas of expertise. I seek out supervisees who are passionate about the profession, eager to learn, open to feedback, and possess strong communication skills. These qualities are essential for building a productive and supportive supervisory relationship.

  • Supervisees can expect a review of the foundational concepts of the relationship, including communication, documentation, and the supervision schedule. The supervisor will present a supervision manual and a supervisor/supervisee contract. Additionally, the session will involve getting to know each other, discussing the supervisee's motivations for becoming a therapist, and identifying their learning style.

  • My strengths include continuous learning, a desire to meet supervisees where they are, directness, awareness due to identity factors, and openness to feedback. I leverage these strengths by creating a space for open and challenging conversations and modeling the desired behaviors for their supervisees.

  • As a clinical supervisor, I utilize a variety of methods and tools, including didactic-oriented activities, relationship-focused counseling, and consultation. These methods support the growth and competence of my supervisees by providing opportunities for knowledge transmission, self-reflection, and development of their own conceptualizations and treatment plans.
